In 1949 Mr. Stanley A. Harris, Secretary of the Boone Chamber of Commerce, organized "Echoes of the Blue Ridge" in celebration of Watauga County's Centenial celebration.
"Echoes of the Blue Ridge" was cancelled due to inclement weather, and was restaged in 1950. The second attempt in 1950 was a success.
The drama proved to be popular and later evolved into the present-day "Horn in the West" written by Kermit Hunter.
